Notes and observations

RRK, 9/9/2010: Nucellar seedling of RSD 1998031. Of seeds of RSD received, germinated. A nucellar seedling (RSD1998031SG012 = RRUT 133) was selected with ISSR markers and retained as RRUT 133 (Krueger and Roose, 2003). RSD 1998031 was then inactivated. The Indio Accession Book states: "55-123 & 55-124 budwood from two different seedlings -- all of these trees were grown from seed from Corona -- presumably from budded Rubidoux." This accession is in the large flower group of Fang et al (1997). However, the standard line of 'Rubidoux', PI 539168 is small flower. The reason for this discrepancy is unknown. The tetraploidy of this accession needs to be confirmed. It was apparently induced in Florida since this and the 2N versions RSD 1998030 and were derived from the same seedlot.
