Notes and observations
Both seed and budwood of this accession was imported, it was decided to discard the seed source and keep the budwood source.
Seed received and grown by R.K. Soost. 1/89- Also came in as budwood import, see CRC 3985. 6/89- Original USDA spec. sheet says this has "low acid".--EMN 8/89- Additional info re Xinhuicheng received from Dr. Bitters this month: A sweet orange variety which originated in Fujian Province (Canton). An acidless orange. 110-113 g. per fruit, SS 13-16%, sugar 11-15%, acid 0.1-0.7 %. Ripe Nov-Dec. 12/89- No fruit. Both trees chlorotic & beginning to self-defoliate. Incompatibility? Phytophthora? Need to repropagate on Ro. Lemon at Rubidoux to save budline.--EMN.
