Notes and observations
1985, EMN: Fruit on small branch on north side of tree. Bears peculiar pine-like projections on more or less of the surface and especially in a depressed circular ring about the blossom end. Collected by J.T. Barrett. This accession had psorosis and exocortis, removed by shoot tip grafting.
11/1989, EMN:"Spine-like projections" are found only in a ring around the blossom end of the fruit, as far as I can tell. This would appear to be a genetic weakness in the ring of slightly depressed rind that can be seen on most Valencias and many other sweets, especially on green end tends to crack open; the fruit produces the "Fuzzy" spines as a part of the healing process. These spines appear to resemble small, elongate juice vesicles.
4/11/2008, DK & TS: Tastes like a regular Valencia orange.
