Notes and observations
Notes from T. Tanaka in CITROLOGIA, pg. 56, Univ. Osaka, Japan: Spineless tree about 6 meters high, lvs oval, obtuse, petiole wing wedge-shaped, fr resembles satsuma in rind color, little more rounded than satsuma, green polyembroyo. Notes from W.P. Bitters 1963 trip to Japan: Fr oblate shaped, with 5-7 cm, th 4.1 am, stem end flat, stylar end flattened, sl depressed, no areole or navel, smooth rind, good orange color. Rind 2-3 mm thick, lg hollow core, flesh deep orange, av. 3 seeds, polyembryonic, flesh juicy, tender, rich, no rag, lvs sm, elliptical, petiole short, sl winged. This may have possiblities for commercial use in Calif. in the Coachella & San Joaquin valleys. 3/87- Early medium-small mandarin type. Has been tried at Lindcove and appears to have no value there.--EMN.
