Webber Shaddock

Citrus maxima (Burm.) Merr. RUTACEAE

CRC 4233

Photos by David Karp and Toni Siebert, CVC.10/30/2013. Photo rights.

Source: Received as budwood from Jensen's Date Garden, Indio, Ca, in 2000. Budwood collected from Jensen's Date Garden, Indio (former Sniff's Date Garden; abandoned). Large central trunk dead, budwood taken from 3 inch diameter trunk originating 6 inches above soil level.

Parentage/origins: Parents unknown.

Rootstocks of accession: Carrizo citrange, C-35 citrange

Season of ripeness at Riverside: October to November

Notes and observations:

Identity as given on signs at Jensen's Date Garden somewhat questionable, as signs appear in some instances to have been moved. Information from sign nearby, which might not be in correct location: 'Pink meat. Origin obscure. Introduced to this area by Swingle.' Observed at collection site: leaves appear like pummelo leaves. Should be planted in field and observed.

Availability: Not commercially available in California.
